Checking out where your betting on Wikipedia is a good start. First, there is the betting type of Win. When you place a bet to win, you are betting on a certain horse to win the race. In order to win at this bet, your horse must cross the finish line first. This is a common type of horse betting wager. Then, there is Place. When you Place a bet, the horse you wager on must come in first, second, before you can collect. Next, is a Show bet. A Show bet is a bet that is made that says that a certain horse will finish in the top three horse betting category. You will receive a pay out if your horse comes in first, second or in third. Then, there is Across the Board. Across the Board is very popular and it is when you bet on a horse to finish first, second or third. If your horse finishes 3rd, you collect on the show bet. If; however, your horse finishes 2nd you collect on two bets– place and show. If your horse comes in 1st, then you collect on all three.
With Exacta, you have a much bolder bet but if you win, there is a very big betting payout. With this one you must accurately and correctly select two horses that you think will finish first and second. To win, you must correctly select two horses that will finish first and then finish second. It must be in specific order.
